Subscribers will be given a one-month grace period before the new price comes into effect. Spotify says it has started notifying Spotify Premium subscribers of its price increase, via email. But the once-most-affordable music-streaming service is no longer the cheapest, and competitors are one-upping the service by offering additional features, such as lossless audio and spatial audio (which are not currently supported by Spotify) for a cheaper price. The company surpassed the 500 million user mark for the first time in the first quarter of 2023, securing its status as the leader in the music-streaming-service wars. “The market landscape has continued to evolve since we launched,” the Swedish firm said in a blog post. “So that we can keep innovating, we are changing our Premium prices across a number of markets around the world. These updates will help us continue to deliver value to fans and artists on our platform.” It is the first time Spotify has increased the price of its individual plan since it first launched in 2008.
